Comment on the City's Ombudsman By-law and policy

Residents are encouraged to comment on proposed amendments to the City Ombudsman By-law 2015 and City Ombudsman Policy 2014, which among others include clarifying and streamlining processes that will be to the benefit of members of the public. Residents are reminded to submit comments by 31 July 2024.
Some of the objectives of reviewing the City Ombudsman Policy and By-Law are to:
• Ensure co-operation and co-ordination between internal and external stakeholders
• Establish clear processes
• Include functional attributes of the Office of the City Ombudsman.
The draft by-law and policy is available for viewing on the City's website: www.capetown.gov.za/haveyoursay, at subcouncil offices and at City libraries.

The City's Public Participation Unit will assist people who cannot read or write, people living with disabilities and people from disadvantaged groups who are unable to submit written comments, to have their comments or input recorded and submitted to the City. The Office of the Ombudsman renders an independent, impartial, and unbiased, service. The Office of the Ombudsman is available to assist City staff and members of the public with all last resort municipal-related complaints (complaints that have gone through the City service channels prior to approaching the Ombud) via the telephone, SMS and online option as below:
